Stiniva Beach (also referred to as Stiniva Bay or Stiniva Cove) on Vis island is one of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia and not to be missed during your visit!
A secluded turquoise cove with pebbly shores and surrounding verdant cliffs are just some of the reasons why Stiniva Beach was rated Europe’s Best Beach in 2019.
I have put together this complete guide including how to get there, the best time to visit, and what to expect when you arrive.
STINIVA BEACH VIS – OVERVIEW
Let’s start this guide with the essentials you should know about Stiniva Vis, from its location, getting there, and more.
WHERE IS STINIVA BEACH?
Stiniva Beach is located on the southern coastline of Vis Island in Croatia.
Click here to see the location on Google maps.
HOW TO GET TO STINIVA BEACH CROATIA?
There are two ways of getting from Vis to Stivina Beach Croatia, one is by boat and the other is by hiking.
By Boat:
Stiniva Vis can be accessed via boat along the south coast of the island.
Stiniva Bay Croatia is located just offshore from the beach with an allocated area for larger boats to anchor.
From here you can swim into shore, cruise in on a dingy, or paddle over on a stand-up board.
If you don’t have your own set of sails, there are a number of boat tours on Vis that will take you around to all of the secluded bays and beaches, including the incredible Vis Stiniva.
A boat tour is definitely one of the best ways to explore the outer edges of the island.
By Hiking:
If you are exploring Vis Island by scooter or car, you can drive over to Stiniva Cove and park up in the parking lot located at the top of the hill.
From the parking lot, there is a hiking trail down to the beach that takes around twenty to thirty minutes each way.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT STINIVA VIS?
As I mentioned earlier, Stiniva was awarded Europe’s Best Beach in 2019, so you can expect every man and his dog to be there in the middle of summer.
However, don’t let this deter you from visiting during your summer holidays in Croatia.
The best time to visit Stiniva Beach in Vis is early morning just after sunrise at around 7:00 am and I guarantee there will be fewer people.
You may even get lucky and have this secluded haven all to yourself.
Another good time to visit Stiniva Bay is sunset. The majority of tourists will spend the entire day down at the beach and eventually head back to the main city by the late afternoon before nightfall.
So watching the sunset may just be an unforgettable experience not to miss!
ARRIVING AT STINIVA BEACH VIS ISLAND
My friends and I decided to rent scooters for the day, drive over to Stiniva Vis and hike down to the ocean as opposed to going on a boat tour around the island.
We arrived at the top parking lot around midday and there were at least a dozen other cars and scooters there too.
It probably wasn’t the best time to visit because it was hot as hell in the midday sun and we knew it was going to be packed with other beachgoers.
Nevertheless, we were all so keen to go for a dip in the ocean at the most talked-about beach in Europe!
BEST TOUR OF STINIVA BEACH
The best way to visit is to join a Blue Cave and Hvar Tour With Island-hopping!
It includes the entrance fees, hotel transfers, snorkeling gear, and a fun guide!
THE HIKE DOWN
From the parking lot, there is a walking trail that is clearly signposted and it will lead you right the way down to Stiniva Vis.
The hike takes around twenty to thirty minutes from top to bottom and for the most part, it’s unshaded, so be sure to slip on some sunscreen and slap on a hat.
Note: The hiking trail is a combination of steps, rocks, and loose gravel so I highly recommend wearing a good pair of walking shoes.
Trust me on this as I saw many people struggling on the trail wearing flip-flops.
The BEST Hotel in Vis
Need a place to stay? Villa Luana is conveniently located in on Vis Island.
Whether you’re here to explore the sights or relax in comfort, Villa Luana offers the best of both worlds.
WHAT TO EXPECT
About halfway down the trail, there is an opening in the trees, revealing the incredible beach below.
I stopped here to take a couple of photos and these images ended up being my favorite snaps from the adventure.
At the end of the trail, you’ll emerge through some bushes and directly onto the pebbly shoreline at Stiniva Vis. A rewarding sight for sore eyes after a sweaty hike down the mountainside.

Hi Johhny,
Thanks for this very well written guide. I will stay in Split and want to visit the beach and go back to Split on the same day. How can I plan this? How long does the journey ( ferry from Split to Vis + scooter to parking lot + hiking to the beach) take in total? And how much the scooter rent for a day?
Best,
Onur
