WHERE IS LIPSI ISLAND?
Lipsi Island is a Greek island located in the Dodecanese chain, off the southwest coast of Turkey.
The island is about 8 kilometers long and 6 kilometers wide, with a population of around 800 people.
The island’s main village is also called Lipsi and is home to most of the island’s restaurants, cafes, and shops.
The island is known for its sandy beaches, rich heritage, and relaxed atmosphere.

HOW TO GET TO LIPSI GREECE
Lipsi Island can only be reached by ferry from the neighboring islands of Rhodes, Kos, Leros, and Samos with the ferry company Dodekanisos Seaways.
Some of these islands have international airports where you can fly into and jump on a ferry to Lipsi.
The easiest way is to fly to the nearby island of Leros and take a ferry to Lipsi from there.
The journey takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour depending on the sea conditions and will cost you only 6 EUR.
Alternatively, you can take a ferry from Rhodes for about 105 EUR with a journey time of 4.5 hours, while the ferry from Kos takes only 2 hours and costs 38 EUR.
Taking the ferry from Samos to Lipsi is also possible for 38 EUR and the journey is 2 hours.
Lastly, it’s possible to take a ferry to Lipsi from Athens but bear in mind it’s a long 9-hour journey. However, if you have the time, you can potentially save money on flights by taking the ferry from Athens to Lipsi.

HOW TO GET AROUND THE ISLAND
The most common ways of getting around the island are by car and on foot.
If you’re fit, active, and don’t mind hiking, it’s possible to reach each location on foot from the main village.
For example, the walk from the main village to Hohlakora Beach only takes 30 minutes.
I personally rented a car from George Rent A Car for a few days, so this is another option if you prefer to drive. They also have scooter rentals available.
To organize a car rental, simply call +306942409679 or visit the rental shop located in the main port here.
The roads on the island are mostly tar-sealed, though outside of the main village there are a few dirt roads to reach some beaches.
BEST TIME TO VISIT LIPSI GREECE
Lipsi Greek Island is a beautiful place to visit year-round with its crystal-clear waters, sandy beaches, and picturesque landscapes.
The absolute best time to visit Lipsi is in the spring or early summer.
From April to June, the weather is warm but not too hot, and the island is lush and green.
July and August are the busiest months on the island as tourists flock to enjoy the warm weather and perfect beach conditions.

GO SWIMMING AT PLATIS GIALOS BEACH
An absolute must-do when you arrive on the island is to go swimming at Platis Gialos Beach, the most popular of the Lipsi beaches.
Platis Gialos is situated on the northwest side of the island and it gets plenty of sun throughout the day.
The water in the bay boasts a vibrant, turquoise color and is relatively warm in the summer making it perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying the stunning marine life right off the shore.
There is also a family-run, traditional Greek tavern located right next to the beach if you fancy a bite to eat or drink.
All in all, Platis Gialos Beach is one of the best places to visit on Lipsi Island and I couldn’t recommend it enough!

The Nomatic Check-In is the only luggage you’ll need with 90L capacity for those extended trips.
It’s sleek, it’s durable, and it will save your shoulders from pain by not having to carry any weight.
VISIT MOSCHÁTO BAY IN LIPSI
Located over the headland from Platis Gialos Beach, the gorgeous Moscháto Bay is one of the least popular destinations on the island and that’s exactly why it’s so special.
The sparkling water makes it a perfect spot for enjoying the incredible views. That being said, the bay is mostly used by locals to anchor their fishing boats and is not the most ideal spot for swimming.
Whether you’re looking for an exciting adventure, or to watch the sunset, Moscháto Bay is sure to please you.
If you have a drone camera, this is precisely the place to take it – you will love the view from above!
CHECK OUT THE AEGEAN MARINE LIFE SANCTUARY
The Aegean Marine Life Sanctuary is one of the most important areas in Greece for marine life and it’s a one-of-a-kind place that was created to help sick and injured marine life such as dolphins and turtles.
It also serves as an international research center to study dolphins in a regulated and natural environment.
A visit to the Aegean Marine Life Sanctuary is truly a unique experience.
TAKE A DIP AT LIENTOÚ BEACH
Lientoú is one of the most popular Lipsi beaches on the island. The sparkling water and soft sand make it a perfect place to relax and enjoy the incredible views.
Lientoú is also a great spot for swimming and what I liked was that there are no beach umbrellas or sun loungers along the shoreline.
It’s very close to the main village and you’ll reach the beach in less than 5 minutes by car.
Whether you’re looking to soak up some sun or take a dip in the crystal-clear water, Lientoú beach is a very unique place to visit in Lipsi.

The port of Lipsi is the perfect place to start your exploration, as it is home to a number of cafés, restaurants, and shops.
From there, you can meander through the winding streets of the village, taking in the sights and sounds of this charming place.
Be sure to visit the churches around Lipsi village which are authentic and will definitely give you all the Greek vibes while on the island.

Apart from being a quiet and peaceful beach, Katsadia Beach is also a great place for swimming in clear blue waters.
After a swim and working on your tan, have a great meal or a drink at one of the two restaurants nearby, Christo’s Taverna or Dilaila Restaurant Bar and Cafe.
EXPLORE HOHLAKORA & TOURKOMNIMA BEACHES
Just a short drive from the city, Hohlakora and Tourkomnima beaches in Lipsi offers stunning views of the shoreline.
You can explore the rocks and tide pools, swim in the clear water, or simply enjoy the sounds of the waves softly crashing against the shore.
Hohlakora Beach is especially popular with families as there is plenty of space for picnicking and playing games.
Tourkomnima Beach, on the other hand, is a perfect place to soak up the sun or take a romantic stroll along the water’s edge.
I want to highlight the fact that Tourkomnima and Hohlakora have easy access and are best visited in the morning due to their east-facing locations.
GO SHOPPING IN THE VILLAGE
Just when you thought Lipsi Greece couldn’t get any better, it’s also a great place to go shopping.
There are many different stores that sell a variety of items and you’ll find clothes, books, souvenirs, and more.
The village is a great place to shop for gifts for yourself or your loved ones and the prices are also very reasonable compared to other Greek islands.
HOP OVER TO WHITE ISLAND BEACH
White Island boasts a beautiful beach located a short 2km off the coast of Lipsi.
The pebbly shore is blinding white and the water is crystal clear. There are no crowds and the scenery is breathtaking.
To book your tour, I recommend contacting Charoula Prive Cruises Lipsi which organizes round-the-island cruises including White Islands Beach, Aspronisi and its caves, and more.
The tour costs around 30 EUR including food.
DISCOVER THE MANY GREEK CHURCHES IN LIPSI
Greece is home to some of the oldest and most beautiful churches in the world, and Lipsi isn’t an exception.
Greek Orthodox churches have a long and rich history, and those on the island are truly unique.

The unmissable ones to check out are the brightly-painted Church of Panagia Nikous, the beautiful Agios Stathis, the church of Theologos, and Panagia Harou.

If you’re a cheese lover, then Alpha Farm Dairy is a must during your visit.
They have all kinds of cheese from semi-hard to soft to cream cheeses and even yogurt, using cow, buffalo, and goat milk.
What I particularly liked about Alpha Farm Dairy is the fact that their animals are bred locally and their products are certified, which makes them all safe to eat, and they’re delicious!
Other than at the farm itself, you can find the cheese at the local supermarkets.
GO NUDE ON MONODÉNDRI NUDIST BEACH
Looking for a unique beach experience? Head over to Monodéndri nudist beach where you can go nude without fear of judgment.
While nudity is technically illegal in most public places in Greece, naturist beaches are widely tolerated, making Monodéndri a popular spot for those looking to bare all in the great outdoors.
It’s worth noting that there’s nothing on the beach, so you won’t find any restaurant, bar, or shop, and you’ll want to take water and food with you.
So whether you’re an experienced nudist or simply curious about what it’s like to go nude, Monodéndri is definitely worth a visit. Just be sure to pack your sunscreen!
SEE THE VIEW FROM LIPSI 360
Lipsi 360 is a great way to see Leipsoi Island from above. With its panoramic viewpoint, Lipsi 360 gives you a bird’s eye view of the island.
And because Lipsi 360 is just next to the village, you’ll be able to get there in less than 10 minutes!

The winery produces a wide range of wines, including Aposperitis red and Ageriko white wine. No matter what your taste preferences are, you’re sure to find a wine that you’ll enjoy.
WATCH THE SUNRISE ON LIPSI ISLAND
One of the best things to do in Lipsi is to watch the sunrise.
The island is situated in such a way that the sun rises directly over the Aegean Sea which makes for a stunning sight as the sun’s rays reflect off the water and cast a warm glow over the island.

In my opinion, the best place to watch the sunrise is Tourkomnima Beach due to its east-facing location!
