I spent one week at Lapoint Surf Camp Sri Lanka and can’t recommend it enough! It was the perfect mix of surfing, fun activities, and cultural immersion.

Lapoint has several surf camps all around the world, offering accommodation, surf coaching for all levels, and much more.

HOW TO GET TO LAPOINT SRI LANKA SURFING CAMP?

The best way to reach Lapoint Sri Lanka Surfing Camp in Ahangama is to fly into Colombo International Airport.

You can pre-arrange an airport transfer with Lapoint and be picked up at the airport upon arrival and then dropped directly at the surf camp.

Transportation from Colombo Airport to Lapoint Surf Camp Ahangama costs 65 EUR one way per person and it takes around 2-3 hours depending on traffic conditions.

IS LA POINT SURF CAMP IN SRI LANKA WORTH IT?

Absolutely! This is the second time I have visited a Lapoint Surf Camp (the first was Lapoint Camp in Costa Rica) and I loved every bit of it.

Everything is tailored for your convenience, from the activities to the surfing classes to the delicious meals and everything in between.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

7 days at Lapoint Surf Camp in Sri Lanka starts at 830 EUR per person, however, it can increase depending on the season and public holidays.

Note that you can choose between Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 surf classes depending on your experience, and they all have the same inclusions and prices.

The surf package includes the following:

• 7 nights accommodation
• 7 breakfasts and 5 dinners
• Free use of surf equipment for 6 days
• 5x 2-hour surf lessons with professional coaches
• Surf theory classes and video analysis
• Transportation to surf locations

If you choose to book the accommodation package only, this is what’s included starting from 530 EUR per person:

• 7 breakfasts and 5 dinners
• 7 nights accommodation

HOW TO BOOK LAPOINT SRI LANKA SURFING CAMP?

You can check availability and book your Sri Lanka surf camp experience directly on Lapoint’s website.

Select your level of surfing, and the dates you wish to book, add transportation from Colombo Airport, and fill in the quick form asking for basic information.

The surf camp hosts will also organize family dinners twice during the week. If you choose to join, those dinners are at your own expense.

Keep in mind that flights and transport to the camp are also not included in the price.

Lunch is not included in the package but you can either try out some of the delicious cafés and restaurants in town or choose something from the lunch menu at the camp.

THE SURF

Let me start with the surf and the coaches who are the highlight of this Sri Lanka surf camp!

They will provide you with a wealth of knowledge about the ocean, waves, and surfing techniques during the initial training.

With a ratio of two students per coach, you’ll receive ample attention and support to help you excel in the water.

Depending on your level, you’ll be grouped into beginner, intermediate, or advanced classes, which I think was great.

The alternating morning surf lessons for beginner surfers ensure everyone gets a chance to hit the waves where there is plenty of space for everyone.

If you’re an intermediate or advanced surfer, you’ll head to other locations to ride bigger waves!

THE FOOD

Another one of the highlights at Lapoint Surf Camp Sri Lanka is the delicious food at the in-house restaurant.

Whether you’re a meat-lover, vegetarian, or vegan, the chefs at the camp have got you covered.

You can expect a mix of local and Western delicacies with plenty of variety so you never get bored.

Sri Lankans are well-known for their love of breakfast, and you’ll understand why once you see the delicious buffet each morning at this surf school in Sri Lanka!

Freshly baked bread, egg dishes, pancakes, veggies, oats, tea and coffee, and juicy fruit will set you up perfectly for a day of surfing and adventure.

Lunchtime offers a nice variety of Western and local classics, including the must-try Sri Lankan curry.

The evenings are all about getting together after a day in the water with a cold beer or cocktail from the bar, delicious food, and lots of fun before heading to bed.

SURF CAMP LEADERS

When you book a stay at Lapoint Sri Lanka, you can rest easy knowing that you will have a team of friendly and expert surf camp leaders to guide you through every aspect of your trip.

I loved how they perfectly represent Lapoint’s values – interacting with everyone as a friend, and let me tell you, that was one part of the trip that I loved!

And when it comes to activities, they’ll organize games and other events throughout the week that everyone can join so you don’t feel left alone!

Needless to say, if you run into any bumps along the road during your stay, the camp leaders will take care of you just like family.

THE PARTICIPANTS

The participants were a mix of males and females aged 18-35 and everyone shared the same interests of surfing and having a good time!

We were a small group of seven from countries such as the UK, Switzerland, Germany, and Australia.

THE ACCOMMODATION

La Point Surf Camp Sri Lanka is nestled in a quiet coastal town near Kabalana Beach, and you’ll love waking up every morning to the sound of the waves.

They offer different room types which are:

• Dorms
• Twin rooms
• Double rooms

When booking, you can choose between dorms, twin rooms, and double rooms, depending if you’re traveling on your own, as a couple, with friends, or with family.

All the rooms have a clean, minimalist design and plenty of light, and are equipped with comfortable beds, bathrooms, and modern facilities.

SWIMMING POOL & HANG-OUT AREA

The massive swimming pool is available for a refreshing swim in the morning or in the afternoon which is a nice treat after surfing.

Also, the hang-out area with a TV, books, and comfortable sofas was a nice zone to chill out for hours!

ECO-FRIENDLY PRACTICES AT LAPOINT SURF CAMP

Another part I loved about my stay at Lapoint Sri Lanka Surf Camp is their love for the environment and the ocean.

At the camp, they do all they can to reduce the use of plastic with no plastic straws, as well as having reusable cups and water bottles.

Also, every week there is a beach clean up which everyone is encouraged to join.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES AT LAPOINT SURF CAMP SRI LANKA

There’s so much more to do at Lapoint Sri Lanka Surfing Camp, and the surfing part is only one of them.

Here are some optional activities that you’ll be able to book during your stay:

• Safari at Udawalawa National Park
• Yoga or spa sessions
• Sinharaja rainforest exploration

You can book all these tours and activities with the camp leaders when you arrive. Please note that these optional activities are not included in the price.

If you want to get out and enjoy the area on your own when you have free time, you can ride with one of the tuk-tuk drivers at pre-agreed prices, or rent a scooter to explore.
