Camugao Falls is one of the best waterfalls in Bohol boasting sheer size and irresistible rock pools!
I visited these falls in September during the rainy season and the flow of water was raging. This is also low season in Bohol so there were no other tourists in sight.
I have put together this complete guide to visiting Camugao Falls Bohol including how to get there, how much it costs, and what to expect when you arrive.
QUICK ANSWERS – CAMUGAO FALLS BOHOL
Let’s start this guide with the essentials you should know before coming, such as the Camugao Falls location, how to get there, and more.
WHERE IS CAMUGAO FALLS?
Camugao Falls can be found in Balilihan on Bohol Island in the Philippines. Note that they are often referred to as “Balilihan Falls” due to their location.
From the main tourist area of Panglao, it’s a 42km drive that takes around 1 hour to reach these falls.
HOW TO GET TO CAMUGAO FALLS BOHOL?
The best way to get to Camugao Falls in Balilihan is to rent a scooter from one of the many scooter rental stores dotted around Panglao.
Scooter rentals are around 300 – 350 pesos per day with a full tank of gas.
Currently, there are no Bohol tours that I know of which include these falls on the itinerary so you will have to find your own way to this location.
BEST BOHOL TOUR
To make the most out of your time during your stay, the best tour to see the highlights is the Bohol Countryside Tour!
It includes private transportation with an experienced guide, multiple attractions, lunch, and all entrance fees!
ARRIVING AT CAMUGAO FALLS
The road leading to Camugao is unsealed and very crumbly in some areas so take it slow on the scooter to ensure you arrive safely.
There is a parking lot and information desk at the trailhead to the falls and the entrance fee is 25 pesos. An additional 20 pesos must be paid for parking also.
It’s no more than a 10 to 15-minute hike to reach the bottom of the cliffs and to where the jungle trail emerges at the base of the falls.
There’s an epic viewpoint right before you start descending down the stairs where you can get the first glimpse of Camugao Waterfall from a top-down perspective. Be sure to stop here for a quick photo along the way.
The rocky stairs down the cliff are quite steep but manageable with the aid of bamboo handrails. A common entrance structure to most waterfalls in South East Asia.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT CAMUGAO FALLS
Camugao Waterfall is surrounded by a towering curved cliff face that makes you feel as though you’ve just stepped inside an enormous amphitheater.
To add to the ambiance of these falls in Balilihan Bohol, lush green plants and vines surround the canyon – No wonder that this is one of the best waterfalls in Bohol!
First things first, when I arrived I set down my belongings on the edge of the swimming hole and dived right into the natural-made pool to cool off.
The water is that classic vibrant blue color that the Philippines is famous for and it was even more refreshing than I expected.
A number of huts and rest areas can be found around the edge of the swimming hole beneath the falls where you can perch up and marvel at the beautiful surroundings.
There are no food and drink options at this tourist spot so best to pack your own snacks and drinking water if you plan to spend some time at this epic Bohol tourist spot.
All in all, when visiting, you’ll understand why it’s one of the coolest Balilihan Bohol tourist spots.
The BEST Hotel in Bohol
Need a place to stay? Amorita Resort is conveniently located in Bohol.
Whether you’re here to explore the sights or relax in comfort, Amorita Resort is an excellent option!
CLIFF JUMPING AT THE FALLS
There is also a large rock on the right-hand side of the basin where you can enjoy some cliff jumping into the natural pool – Doesn’t it sound like one of the best things to do in Bohol?!
The highest jump-off point on the rock is around 3 meters so nothing too wild but still a lot of fun!
I always like to make sure the landing is clear of debris and large rocks before doing any cliff jumping so I recommend you do the same.
