Brúarfoss Waterfall is located between the hot spring area of Geysir, about 15 km away, and the village Laugarvatn just 14 km away.

HOW TO GET TO BRUARFOSS?

To get to Brúarfoss, head over to the car park at the Bruara Trail, and from here, you’ll need to take a flat walk along the Brúará River.

The hike is easy enough for people of all ages to do, so you don’t have to worry about being an experienced hiker.

It’s worth noting that you’ll see more waterfalls on the way (more on this later) and, for this reason, you’ll want to continue until you see the massive, blue waterfall.

HOW LONG IS THE HIKE TO BRUARFOSS?

Hiking to Bruarfoss Waterfall is a great way to explore the natural beauty of Iceland. The hike is mostly flat and takes about 2 hours to return.

It follows the Brúará River and offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Along the way, you’ll pass through farmland and other falls.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BRUARFOSS WATERFALL?

The best time to visit this stunning waterfall is during the summer months, from May to September. During this time, the weather is usually mild and sunny, making it perfect for a hike.

That said, if you’re in for more scenic views, then coming in the winter is a good alternative. However, note that the trail will become icy, and you’ll have to be more careful when coming.

It’s also worth noting that the area around Bruarfoss can get quite muddy in spots, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear.

THINGS TO DO AT BRÙARFOSS

Now that you know the essentials of the waterfall, let’s talk about the different things to do on the trail and the different waterfalls you’ll pass by.

HIKE TO BRUARFOSS WATERFALL

The reason why you ended up on the Bruarfoss Trail is to see the main waterfall, and you’ll love seeing the blue hues.

Hidden at the end of the 2-hour trail, Bruarfoss Waterfall is a stunning place you should definitely add to your Iceland itinerary.

That being said, while the hike only takes about 2 hours return, it’s important to note that the path is very muddy, and as much as I loved the place, I don’t recommend coming on a rainy day.

A hike to Bruarfoss is a must-do activity for any nature lover visiting Iceland, and it’s a memory that will stay with you forever.

SEE HLAUPTUNGUFOSS WATERFALL

With its blue water cascading down into a lagoon, it’s no wonder why Bruarfoss has become a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. But why stop there?

On the way to Bruarfoss, you’ll see Hlauptungufoss, another beautiful waterfall that is just as blue and stunning!

Hlauptungufoss is the first spot you’ll find on the trail, so have your camera ready to capture some amazing photos.

STOP AT MIDFOSS WATERFALL

The second waterfall you’ll see on the path to Brùarfoss is Midfoss, a beautiful place to take a few photos and where you can take a break.

Truth be told, it’s not as beautiful as Hlauptungufoss and Brúarfoss, but it’s still worth coming for some Insta-worthy shots!

FACILITIES AT BRUARFOSS

The facilities in this area are limited. In fact, you will be able to park your car at the parking lot, and that’s pretty much it.

There are no toilets so you’ll have to wait until you’re done with the trek and drive to the nearest town.

Also, there are no garbage bins, so you’ll have to carry any trash in your backpack and dispose of it properly.

WHERE TO EAT NEAR BRUARFOSS

You’ll find a few restaurants near the waterfall such as:

Restaurant Mika and Hlöðuloftið are great places to eat with burgers, pizzas, risottos, and ice cream, but the real star around is the Friðheimar Greenhouse.

Friðheimar Greenhouse is a unique tomato farm located on the Golden Circle in Iceland.

It offers you the opportunity to experience a feast of tomato soup right in the greenhouse, as well as other dishes made from their homegrown products!
