Tembeling Beach is one of the best tourist spots to visit on Nusa Penida Island.
Featuring a number of cool things to see including pristine white sand beaches, tropical rainforests, natural lagoons, hidden caves, and cliff-jumping.
I have put together this complete guide to visiting Tembeling Beach Nusa Penida including how to get there and what to expect when you arrive.
WHERE IS TEMBELING BEACH?
Tembeling Forest and Temebeling Beach are located on the west coast of Nusa Penida Island.
Some other highlights worth visiting on the west coast of the island are Kelingking Beach and Banah Cliff Viewpoints.
Click here to see the location on Google maps.
HOW TO GET HERE
The easiest way to get to Tembeling Beach Nusa Penida is by scooter.
There are a number of scooter rental shops dotted along the beachfront at Toya Pakeh harbor that will be able to sort you out with some wheels when you arrive.
Alternatively, most accommodations will help you to organize a scooter rental for the time you plan to spend on Nusa Penida Island.
You can expect to pay around 70,000 IDR per day for a Nusa Penida scooter rental with a full tank of gas.
Be sure to get a helmet as an extra precaution for riding on the roads in Nusa Penida as they are not very well maintained with potholes and loose gravel in many areas.
I also highly recommend purchasing travel insurance, especially when riding on the roads in Asia. Safety first!

ARRIVING AT TEMBELING NUSA PENIDA
The one-way track down to Tembeling Beach Nusa Penida from the main road is very steep and it’s recommended for experienced riders only.
If you are not confident to ride down the sketchy road, there is typically a group of local Indonesians sitting in a small hut at the turnoff for Tembeling Forest that will offer you a return ride down on the back of their motorbike for 50,000 IDR.
If you want to save money, it’s possible to walk down which takes approximately 30 minutes each way.
Surprisingly, there are no parking or entrance fees for this location.
THINGS TO DO AT TEMBELING NUSA PENIDA
These are the best things to do at Tembeling Beach during your visit.
SWIM IN THE BLUE LAGOON
The main attraction is the freshwater blue lagoon nestled in the Tembeling Forest.
This freshwater natural pool is the perfect spot for a swim on the way down to Tembeling Beach.
CLIFF JUMPING AT THE BLUE LAGOON
There are two cliff-jumping spots in the blue lagoon. One is 3 meters high and the other is 5 meters.
I did a depth check of the lagoon before doing some cliff jumping and I wasn’t able to touch the bottom. My guess is that the lagoon is approximately 3 to 4 meters deep.
SECRET BEACH AND CAVES
Discover the hidden cave and secret beach just a short 2-minute walk from the blue lagoon through the Tembeling Forest.
Squeeze through the crack in the rock into a cave that opens up onto a secret beach.
There are hundreds of carefully crafted rock sculptures scattered across the beach on the other end of the cave.
JACUZZI POOL
Right before you get to Tembeling Beach there is a freshwater jacuzzi pool that the locals have creatively built on the edge of the cliffs.
This is one of Nusa Penida’s best-kept secrets!
Take a refreshing dip in the jacuzzi pool with incredible jungle views of the Tembeling forest and beach in the distance.
TEMBELING BEACH
Last but not least is the beautiful Tembeling Beach.
There is a rocky reef on the shoreline and there are a number of tidal pools to take a dip in but swimming in the waves here is definitely not recommended.
