SAFETYWING PLANS AND POLICIES

SafetyWing has different plans with different policies – with SafetyWing Nomad Insurance being the most popular option.

The plans are;

  • SafetyWing Nomad Insurance
  • SafetyWing Remote Health Insurance
  • Remote Health for Startups

Nomad Insurance starts at $45.08 for travelers aged 10 to 39 years old, $73.92 for those aged 40 to 49, and $115.92 for users aged between 50 and 59 years old.

These prices do not include coverage in the United States.

When adding the U.S. coverage, the starting price will increase to $83.44 for travelers between 10 and 39 years old, $137.48 for those aged 40 to 49, and $226.24 for 50 to 59 years old.

The Remote Health plan costs $206 and offers even more coverage. It covers home country expenses for long-term visits and cancer but isn’t available for short-term travels.

The Remote Health for Startups is an excellent plan for remote teams and starts at $80 per member. If you manage or are part of a remote team, this is the best plan you can get.

SAFETYWING NOMAD INSURANCE INCLUSIONS

HOSPITALIZATION

With its hospitalization coverage, you can rest assured that medical bills will be taken care of without draining your wallet.

Apart from hospitalization, it covers hospital rooms, doctor visits, ambulances, and even intensive care if needed.

Enjoy peace of mind wherever your travels take you and experience new cultures without worrying about being left with a hefty bill.

A word of caution – all the above is covered but you’ll have to pay a deductible of $250 first, and a maximum limit of $250,000 per year is set.

EMERGENCY DENTAL WORK

SafetyWing Nomad Insurance is the perfect solution if you need some dental work done on the road. With coverage for up to $1,000 of emergency-related dental work each year, you can feel confident that you’ll be taken care of should anything happen.

Plus, it’s not subject to deductible, which is definitely a bonus.

PHYSICAL THERAPY AND CHIROPRACTIC CARE

The Nomad Insurance plan also provides physical therapy and chiropractic care should you need it.

This coverage allows you to pre-book a physical therapy or chiropractic session for up to $50 per day.

That being said, it must be ordered in advance by a physician, so keep that in mind.

HOME COUNTRY COVERAGE

That’s right – even if the SafetyWing Nomad Insurance plan is mostly made for nomads and frequent travelers, SafetyWing went the extra mile and offers limited home country coverage.

This point varies whether you’re a U.S. citizen or not, and this is what their full policy says;

U.S. home country: For every three-month period during which you are covered, eligible medical
expenses incurred in the U.S. are covered up to a maximum of 15 days.

Non-U.S. home country: For every three-month period during which you are covered, eligible medical expenses incurred in your home country are covered for up to a maximum of 30 days.

All in all, it’s very beneficial even if the period is limited.

TRIP INTERRUPTION

Other than medical expenses, SafetyWing has your back with trip interruption protection too. Offering up to $5,000 of coverage and no deductible required, you can count on them.

However, please note the following conditions;

They cover the cost of an economy one-way flight or ground ticket to the area of your principal residence.

Also, you must provide proof of destruction due to fire or natural disaster of more than 40% of your residence, the death of a parent, spouse, sibling, child, or grandchild.

Alternatively, a letter from a physician stating that you must go back to your home country for medical reasons.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL EVACUATION

In extreme cases, this insurance provides emergency medical evacuation coverage up to $100,000.

Also, this isn’t subject to deductible, which is good for those who can’t afford it.

That’s an exceptional offering and this is the lifetime limit so, after reaching this limit, you won’t be able to get it again.

SAFETYWING INSURANCE EXCLUSIONS

Naturally, as great as SafetyWing Insurance is, not everything is included, so let me walk you through the exclusions.

PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS

One crucial exclusion is worth noting: pre-existing conditions.

That includes any injury, sickness, or psychological illness that existed before you obtained the insurance coverage, and will therefore not be covered by your policy.

An honest and accurate risk assessment is key; if you have a pre-existing condition be sure to declare it in order to avoid any problems later on because your insurance policy won’t cover anything related to it.

SafetyWing covers you for a range of accidents and illnesses during your travels, so feel confident that you’re in good hands!

ELECTRONICS

For the Tech Nomad, a mobile device is an essential part of life, so it’s important to be sure that those devices are adequately protected.

However, SafetyWing’s Nomad Insurance doesn’t cover any expensive electronics, which can seem counterintuitive initially, but this makes sense since most digital nomads already have extensive Gadget Insurance plans in place.

THEFT OR LOSS

SafetyWing’s Nomad Insurance has a strict policy against theft and loss.

While they are pretty flexible as a company and they have massive coverage, they do not offer any refund if you lose your phone somewhere or if a pickpocket robs you.

Despite these exclusions, SafetyWing is still a great option for travelers who need reliable medical insurance at an affordable price.

COVERAGE IN SANCTIONED COUNTRIES

That’s right – if you’re traveling or if you’re from specific sanctioned countries, then you will not be covered on your trip there.

The countries that SafetyWing does not cover are North Korea, Syria, Somalia, Cuba, Sudan, South Sudan, and Iran.
