The best way to get to New Chums Beach from Auckland is to rent a car or campervan and head straight to the Coromandel Peninsula.

From here, make your way to the northern end of Whangapoua Beach and park your vehicle as the beach is only accessible by foot.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT NEW CHUMS BEACH

New Chums Beach Coromandel was voted one of New Zealand’s best beaches.

It’s a 1km long white-sand beach that sits in a secluded spot and can only be accessed on foot.

The walk to the beach takes around 30-40 minutes and starts at the Whangapoua – New Chums Carpark and you can only get here at low tide.

I recommend checking local tide charts beforehand to ensure you arrive at the optimal time.

I came here while visiting the Coromandel area and spent a few hours checking out the beach and taking the hike up to New Chums Lookout for the views.

The area surrounding the beach is full of natural beauty, with spectacular nikau palms, pohutukawa trees, and lush native bush.

You’ll be able to go for a swim, take photos, and work on your tan – isn’t this the perfect plan for a day out?

Overall, New Chums Beach is an amazing destination for those looking for an escape from everyday life and an opportunity to explore some of New Zealand’s most beautiful scenery!
