10 DAYS IN MOROCCO ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO MARRAKECH

I arrived at Marrakech International Airport for the beginning of my 10 days in Morocco and a driver from Travel Talk Tours was conveniently awaiting my arrival.

From Marrakech Airport, we drove for twenty minutes to the city and checked into the hotel.

Here I met the other tour members and our guide, Abdul, for a group briefing of the itinerary which included in-depth details of what we would be getting up to over the next ten days in Morocco.

After the tour briefing, we headed off on foot to a traditional restaurant in the Marrakech medina for dinner where we all had the chance to get to know each other a little better.

DAY 2: MARRAKECH & ESSAOUIRA

MARRAKECH

We started the morning early to explore the Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs, and Koutoubia Mosque in the heart of Marrakech.

My favorite spot was the Bahia Palace which plays home to unique courtyards, ornate archways, and stained glass windows reflecting a rainbow of colors on the inside walls.

ESSAOUIRA

From Marrakech, we jumped on the tour bus to make the three-hour journey to our next destination on the itinerary, Essaouira, stopping halfway between the two cities for lunch at a local restaurant.

Essaouira is one of Morocco’s most popular and laid-back beachside towns on the southwest coast of North Africa.

Check Out These 3 Best Things To Do In Essaouira!

After checking into the hotel in Essaouira, we had a few hours of free time which we spent exploring this bright and breezy coastal town including Essaouira Beach, Essaouira Medina, and Essaouira Port.

That night we all met up again as a group and headed to a local restaurant inside the medina for some Moroccan cuisine and tea.

DAY 3: CASABLANCA

On day three of the 10 day Morocco itinerary, we had an early rise to make the six-hour bus journey to Casablanca.

We made several stops along the way for bathroom breaks, much-needed coffee, expansive viewpoints and to see the unique tree goats!

We eventually arrived in Casablanca around 1 pm and headed straight to one of the beachside restaurants for lunch.

I didn’t get the chance to visit Casablanca on my first trip to Morocco in 2017, so I was very excited to see it this time around on the Exotic Morocco Tour.

We visited several standout attractions in Casablanca including the enormous Hassan II Mosque (the largest mosque in all of Africa), the United Nations Square, and a stroll through the old medina.

The French colonial legacy can also be seen in the Mauresque architecture throughout the city.

Casablanca was one of my favorite locations we visited during our 10-day tour of Morocco!

DAY 4: RABAT & CHEFCHAOUEN

RABAT

The next stop on the tour is Rabat, the country’s capital city.

Rabat is located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean on Morocco’s western coastline and the Bouregreg River runs right through the region.

The morning started with a short visit to the King’s Royal Palace at sunrise, followed by the Hassan II Tower, Chella Ruins, Mohammed V Mausoleum, and Kasbah Royal Fort.

CHEFCHAOUEN

The tour continues from Rabat to Chefchaouen, which is approximately a four-hour drive passing over the Middle Atlas Mountains.

Chefchaouen is located in the northern region of the country among the Rif Mountains and it’s one of the best places to visit in Morocco!

Related Article: 5 Awesome Things To Do In Chefchaouen

Chefchaouen, also known as the Blue City or the Blue Pearl, is filled with striking blue-washed houses and buildings which are said to symbolize the sky and heavens, serving as a reminder for one to lead a spiritual life.

I personally felt as though I was on cloud 9 and enjoyed getting lost in the maze of twisting alleyways lined with flower pots, native handicrafts, wool garments, and colorful woven blankets!

Before the day was out we hiked for fifteen minutes to Bouzaafar Mosque on the outskirts of the city.

This Spanish mosque offers the best panoramic views over Chefchaouen making it the most popular spot to watch the sunset over the blue-rinsed mountain city!

The loud sounds of prayer echo through the air, bellowing from the speakers mounted on the tall minarets.

DAY 5: CHEFCHAOUEN & FES

CHEFCHAOUEN

Another early morning rise to explore more of the Blue City on day 5!

My friends and I hiked to the Bouzaafar Mosque again for sunrise and then headed back into the twisting alleyways to take photos before the crowds of tourists filled the streets.

FES

Jumping back on the tour bus, we left Chefchaouen at around 2 pm and continued the Morocco itinerary adventure onwards to Fes which is a 3.5-hour drive to the third-largest city in Morocco.

The tour bus dropped us off at the hotel in Fes to freshen up before heading out to a traditional Hammam dinner and show.

DAY 6: FES

Day 6 of the 10-day itinerary was spent exploring the ancient walled city of Fes.

It’s said that Fes is the cultural capital of Morocco and more than 150,000 people live within the confined spaces of the Medina.

I am not a huge fan of cities, though Fes is like no other city I have been to.

A city where hand-pulled carts and donkeys are the only means of transportation inside the Medina and the buzzing daily commerce inside the medieval walls will give you a very authentic experience and a taste of the real Moroccan culture.

The sites we visited in Fes were the Royal Palace, the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss, Najjarine Square, the spices market, and the world-famous Tannery of Fes.

DAY 7 & 8: SAHARA DESERT & MERZOUGA

SAHARA DESERT

The Morocco Tour continues to Merzouga in the Sahara Desert which is an eight-hour journey from Fes.

The drive through the High Atlas Mountains is nothing short of spectacular and unlike any other landscape I have ever seen. I am positive you’ll enjoy this part of the journey.

We arrived in Merzouga at around 4 pm and after a quick freshen-up, everyone was hoisted up onto a camel’s back!

The camel train made tracks through the red dunes for one hour before arriving at the desert camp.

We dropped our bags off in the rugged tents and ran up the nearest dunes to catch the sunset.

This is one of those moments where I took a few seconds to appreciate where I was – standing on top of the highest dune in the Sahara Desert watching a sunset that I will never forget!

After watching the sunset in the Sahara, we gathered around the fire in the middle of the camp and we gobbled down a three-course traditional Moroccan meal while the local guides performed on their djembe drums!

It was a very magical night spent under the dancing stars, surrounded by the great Sahara Desert dunes!

MERZOUGA

Day 8 of the 10 day Morocco itinerary, we were up at the crack of dawn to take a sunrise camel trek back to the village of Merzouga which lies on the edge of the Sahara Desert.

Here we were each allocated another rugged tent to sleep in for the night that is situated right next to a hotel.

After stuffing our faces at the buffet breakfast, the Jeeps were geared up and ready to take us all back into the Sahara Desert for the ultimate 4×4  adventure in the sand dunes!

We also stopped by a small nomad village on the edge of the desert to get an insight into the way of life these people live in the Sahara.

In the afternoon we had free time to do whatever we wanted, so my friends and I headed back out into the dunes on foot to take photos and enjoy another unforgettable sunset in the Sahara Desert.

DAY 9: MARRAKECH

Day 9 is a travel day from the Sahara Desert back to Marrakech.

The drive takes approximately twelve hours, stopping at several viewpoints along the way that offer panoramic views of the surrounding Atlas Mountains!

We arrived back in Marrakech, checked in to the hotel, and then headed into the city for the evening to explore the madness of the Medina!
