Kelor Island In Labuan Bajo, Flores – Visitor’s Guide

//

Located in the heart of Indonesia, Kelor Island (Pulau Kelor) is a stunning uninhabited island that makes for an awesome adventure when visiting Labuan Bajo in Flores.

As there is no accommodation on the island, you can’t stay here overnight, but there are plenty of activities to do when stopping in for the day.

Simply enjoy the peaceful vibes Kelor Island has to offer, chill at the beach, or if you’re fancying some more fun-fuelled activities, swimming and snorkeling are great options, too.

If you’re up for an adventure, hike the small mountain in the middle of Pulau Kelor which offers a panoramic view of the island and its surroundings.

I have put together this complete guide to visiting the island including how to get here, how much it costs, and what to expect when you arrive!

WHERE IS KELOR ISLAND?

Pulau Kelor belongs to Komodo National Park and is situated in Flores, the center of the Indonesian archipelago.

This tiny island is located about 10 km away from Labuan Bajo, the main tourist town in Flores, which makes it really easy to access by boat.

BEST TIME TO VISIT KELOR ISLAND

The best time to visit is between the months of April and June and from September to November.

Between the months of April and November, the weather is pleasant with minimal rainfall and the outside temperature is warm in general.

MUST READ: BEST TRAVEL ACCESSORIES FOR ANY TRIP

However, the months of July and August are the hottest and most crowded months so if you want a peaceful experience without lots of tourists, try to avoid these months.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON PULAU KELOR

Although being a small island there are plenty of fun things to do during your visit.

First of all, you can jump off the jetty into the vibrant turquoise waters below, but if you are not game enough to jump, you can just stick to the swimming part, which I promise is just as good.

With translucid waters, you can see everything below you while swimming, making it the perfect location to do some snorkeling as well.

Due to the water’s transparency, you will be able to spot amazing sea life which is characteristic of the island such as turtles, rays, baby sharks, shrimps, clownfish, and more.

The hike, although a short distance, is a bit of a challenge, but the view from the top is totally worth it.

If you are planning on hiking, make sure to use appropriate footwear as the path can be slippery, especially on the way back down.

When you reach the top you’ll be greeted with expansive views overlooking Pulau Kelor and the surrounding islands in Komodo National Park.

It’s the perfect spot to take some amazing photos and simply enjoy the unique landscape.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

There are no restaurants or bars on the island, but you will find small beach vendors selling fresh coconuts, drinking water, and other snacks.

The beach vendors also have an array of souvenirs if you’d like to purchase something for a keepsake to remember your time spent on this tropical island.
