What I loved when I visited the tomato farm is that they explain how they grow their tomatoes and vegetables, and the staff were very friendly too.

Before we dive into more details about the Fridheimar tomato farm, let’s discuss the essential things to know before you visit.

WHAT IS THE FRIDHEIMAR GREENHOUSE?

Other than being an excellent place to stop for lunch, Fridheimar Greenhouse also offers a unique experience with tomato farm visits, horse shows, and much more.

This is an unforgettable stop in Iceland that allows you to explore the local culture and nature at its finest.

WHERE IS FRIDHEIMAR?

The Fridheimar tomato farm is located on the Golden Circle route, about 100 km from Reykjavik.

The greenhouse can be found at Reykholt in Biskupstungur, which is about 20 minutes from the Geysir hot spring area and Gullfoss Waterfall.

HOW TO GET TO FRIÐHEIMAR TOMATO FARM?

The most common and convenient way to get to Fridheimar is by joining a Golden Circle tour in Iceland, which will stop at the greenhouse.

The reason why it’s the best way to visit is that you’ll get to see other spots in the area, like the Geysir geothermal area, which is a tourist attraction you don’t want to miss!

Alternatively, if you plan to rent your own car and drive around Iceland, you can stop at the greenhouse after visiting the Geysir hot springs or the Kerid Crater, only about 25 minutes away.

PRICES AT THE FRIDHEIMAR GREENHOUSE

Iceland is a pretty expensive country, and you’ll notice it as soon as you land in Reykjavik. However, I was surprised to see the prices at the greenhouse being quite reasonable.

To give you an idea, their special dish, the tomato soup served on a buffet of sour cream, homemade bread, and cucumber salsa, only costs 2,600 IKR (USD $19).

On the other hand, the Fridheimar salad, made with locally grown vegetables, costs 1,950 IKR (USD $14) – much less than you’d find in countries like Switzerland!

The Fridheimar Greenhouse is open every day from 12.00 PM to 4.00 PM, giving you plenty of time to explore the tomato farm, see the horse show, and enjoy a delicious meal.

We’ve quickly discussed food, but the Fridheimar Greenhouse on the Golden Circle is much more than that, it’s an experience that’ll take you straight into the Icelandic local life.

What’s even better is that you get to enjoy their flavorful tomato soup and freshly baked bread while surrounded by the beautiful foliage of the greenhouse.

HORSE SHOWS AT FRIDHEIMAR

Another activity that makes Fridheimar a special stop on the Golden Circle is the horse shows.

At the greenhouse, you can learn about the Icelandic horses, as well as see the show where the staff rides them outside!

Also, if you come during the winter, you’ll see them walking in the snow, which makes everything more magical, and I’m sure you will have a great time.

TIPS FOR VISITING FRIDHEIMAR

First and foremost, let’s start by saying that the Fridheimar Tomato Farm is the best spot to have lunch on the Golden Circle! 

You can enjoy a fresh meal surrounded by tomato plants – it’s like a scene straight out of a fairytale.

In case you don’t join a day trip from Reykjavik, I recommend calling them ahead of time on (+354) 486 8894 to reserve a table.

And don’t worry about breaking the bank because prices are quite reasonable. For around $15 to $20, you can indulge in a delicious soup with home-baked bread and coffee or tea.

Plus, you don’t need to bring cash, as they accept payments with a credit card.

I highly recommend coming when visiting Reykjavik in winter. While there are countless other attractions in South Iceland, it’s safe to say that the tomato farm is definitely worth a visit!
